rhon91Absolutely! Every time I get a spirited great looking 80-90yo woman, I ask her, so whats the secret to longevity? And almost every one of them mentioned wine except one who said "Honey, a cocktail every night!" And she had a stronger drink than our wine. :o)

dianeo: Lik you, I agree there are definitely health benefits to wine drinking in moderation. When in France, I see that their population has a long life expectancy, and they certainly drink wine!

About Me
41yo who enjoys a glass of wine almost every night. Since our trip to Italy, I prefer red over white. Still appreciate the Pinot Grigio but prefer chianti, pinot noir or cabernet... I am a nurse and realize the health benefits of wine mostly due to my older patients who have taught me that it is one of the requirements for longevity. :o) Moderation, of course. ;o)
Think of elegant red wines, and I assume Brunello will be part of the list--I mean, on top of the list. Made from the clone of Sangiovese grapes--Sangiovese Grosso--Brunello is velvety in texture, dark red in color, and rich in flavor; therefore, it's not quite surprising that Brunello has become the favorite of wine collectors and even dignitaries.
Looking at the History
It was in the late 19th century that Brunello came into existence, thanks to Clement Santi, the original Brunello-maker. Santi then was doing experiments with Sangiovese Grosso grapes and concocted a concentrated, aromatic, and good ageing wine variety, which would later become the Brunello wine we are so enamored with today. Since then, more Brunello producers appeared until it became so famous in Italy and other parts of the world.
The Secret of Success
Combine good climate, quality fruits, and excellent ageing process, and you'll have Brunello. This 150-year old wine is aged for about four to five years to assure quality and great flavor. And oh, by the way, Brunello is quite expensive, but the satisfaction you'll get is certainly worth the price.
Welcome to the Philadelphia Wine Group. I'm looking for a couple of group leaders to to take over this group once we get it up and running. If you would like to organize or plan things please let me know. If you are in the area please join up. If you know of an event or tasting in the area please post it.
A group dedicated to the lovers of the grape who live in the Garden State. Discussions on wines, places to buy (find) wine, Food and wine, restaurants and even getting together as a group for some tastings!
Welcome aboard!!!
Hey, you from Joisey???????................what exit?!?!?!
I am not a wine snob, and I have been involved in the wine industry long enough to not be intimidated or bullied by people who think you have to spend a lot of money to find good wines. When I worked at Wine.com, my employee picks always turned into the best sellers. I would like to start a discussion that will bring to light lesser known (but not impossible to find) wines. All are encouraged to share what they know on this subject with the rest of us.
