  • Sangiovese Wine
    42 members
Sangiovese refers to the exquisite red wine which is produced from red grapes of the same name. Having originated in Italy, the Sangiovese wine obtained its name from the Latin phrase "sanguis Jovis" or "the blood of Jove."

The Sangiovese wine originated from its traditional home in Tuscany, and soon spread into other Italian regions and provinces. The Sangiovese eventually became popular outside Italy, especially in Australia and the United States. The Sangiovese grapes have 14 clones, the most popular and well-noted being the Brunello.

The flavor and taste of Sangiovese wines are generally described as fruity, and are often compared with a number of fruits and other flavors to make an even more accurate description for its flavor and aroma. Fruits like strawberries, plums, blueberries, and orange (peel) describe its fruity taste. It is also said to have a slightly floral smell similar to that of a violet. Spices like thyme, cinnamon, and clove are said to share a tangy flavor with the Sangiovese.

Welcome to the Virtual Wine Tasting Club. Every month in our online wine tasting series we will taste a different wine and post our tasting notes. In advance, if possible, please post the wine you will be trying that fits the tasting. The tasting will last one month so you can taste and post your notes in that time frame. Please ask questions about the wine we're tasting, post recommendations for future wine tastings and make this online wine tasting group a wonderful, interactive, informative wine discussion.
