  • About Me I have the greatest job as a **Wine Consultant!** Basically, "I drink wine with friends and get paid for it! "
If you know of someone who loves to entertain, drink wine and is looking for a great part-time job, send them my way. We are looking for new people!

I love introducing people to new wines through wine tastings. Hosts gather 8-12 friends, we taste 6 wines, pair them with cheeses and chocolates and have a great time!

The best part, other than great wines...is travelling to some great places in the world! Barcelona, Spain was my most recent trip to taste some great cava...and of course to Napa for "research!" I am off to Maui in August...not great wines, but it's Maui!

My travels also take me to Africa, where I have a passion for helping women start small businesses. We offer micro-loans, train them, and mentor them in a small enterprise. It is so satisfying to watch the transformation of a family as they have money to eat nutritious food, buy shoes, attend school and improve their self-esteem.
The only wine I have had in Africa, is Holy Wine with a great homemade label of a big cross. It needs a little work!
I hope each of you finds and lives your passion! Just do it!

  • How does one make a small fortune in the Wine Business?

    Posted June 29, 2008

Start with a large fortune! How do they do it? I admire someone who would invest so much and take such a huge financial risk in order to follow a passion for wine. They are both artists and scientists...left and right brained. Cheers to each of you!

  • Napa Valley, CA

California's most celebrated wine region is the Napa valley. While other regions lie in close proximity to the Napa Valley (Sonoma and Carneros) it is Napa that most people know by name. In fact a lot of people lump in Carneros and Sonoma when they talk about Napa.

The Napa Valley, while only 20 miles long, stretches from the cooler town of Napa to the slightly warmer Calistoga where the foggy ocean access is left behind. In this small valley many vineyards have made their home. Some of California's finest Cabernet Sauvignons come form Napa as do great Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot-Cabernet Franc blends.

Some of the most notable vineyards are; Schramsberg, Beringer, Grgich Hills, Rubicon Estates, Robert Mondavi, Domaine Chandon, Chimney Rock, Stag's Leap, Rutherford Hill, Niebaum-Coppola, ZD, Merryvale, Mumm Napa, raymond and Beaulieu Vineyard.

Merlot is perhaps the cause of joy for many red wine lovers like myself. To find out more about this medium-bodied variety, I went to Medoc, a region in France popular for its red wine industry. This region was where Merlot grapes were first regularly planted, making Merlot a local variety by the beginning of the 19th century. I also learned from the same trip that this variety is known for its grapes that are lighter in color compared to Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

A glass of Merlot is definitely one of my favorite things in life. Aside from the fact that I salivate everytime I smell its aroma, this luscious darling is full of fruity flavor that strongly reminds me of my grandma's classic plum pie. It may not be as rich as a glass of Syrah but it can definitely soothe my senses. If a glass of milk can do wonders for a growing kid, then a glass of merlot can do wonders for my tastebuds.
  • Sonoma

Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Bennett Valley and Russian River Valley are all in Sonoma County, California. Wine grapes are also grown at higher elevations, such as Atlas Peak and Mount Veeder AVAs.

Sonoma Valley is in the southern part of Sonoma county and is bordered by the Mayacamas Mountains to the east and the Sonoma Mountains to the west. Sonoma Mountain protects the area from the wet and cool influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean. The Sonoma Mountains to the west help protect the valley from excessive rainfall. The cool air that does affect the region comes northward from San Pablo Bay through the Carneros region and southward from the Santa Rosa Plain. One of California's first successful commercial vineyards, Buena Vista Winery, was established here in 1857.

Alexander Valley is located north of Healdsburg and extends to Mendocino County north of Cloverdale. The are is home to more than 40 vineyards with such familiar names as Cols du Bois, Jordan Vineyard & Winery and Gallo Family Vineyards.

Dry Creek Valley centers around Dry Creek a tributary of the Russian River. This area is known particularly for its sauvignon blanc and zinfandel. It is also home to most of the Sonoma vineyards of E & J Gallo Winery.

Bennett Valley is surrounded to the south, east and west by the Sonoma Mountains and lies south of Santa Rosa. Fog creeping up through Crane Canyon provides a moderating effect on the climate here. This region is the principal grape supplier to Kendall-Jackson.

Russian River Valley is adjacent to the city of Santa Rosa and the Russian River. The Russian River Valley accounts for about one sixth of the wine grapes planted in Sonoma County. Vineyards are prevalent with over 75 wineries accounted for including one of my favorites; Sonoma-Cutrer.
