I have not been to Copia, but I went to the web site and it looks very interesting. If you get a chance go to Rubicon Estate in Napa is very nice, but I would recommend going with someone who is a member. They treat your like royalty. My friend put me on his membership and I took my relatives this spring as it was a great experience. My cousin husband is a chef from France was very impressed. I think we tasted wines for 2 hours, went to a few other places but decided to go back and finish the day by sitting outside by the water fountain with a few cappuccinos. Arrivederci! less

The price is right and it is a cozy place to stay. We have stayed in the Garden Suite and the French Cottage. Both are nice. Its not a B&B but the have kitchenettes and stock the with light breakfast food. It is in Windsor and close centrally located to all wineries. They like you to booked two nights over the weekend but will do one for a few dollars more. If you are looking for a Hotel I would go to the Hilton my friends just stay the weekend and it looks nice and has a nice pool area and very close to Paradise Ridge Winery one of my favorite wineries. Let me know if you need any other help. This area is my favorite place to go wine tasting : ) Frank less

Spillthewine: Hi Tamara, I see that you are from Sac. Do you do any wine tasting in Amador or Lodi? We have found some good wine in these areas. One I like is Macchia they are in Lodi but make wine from both areas. Good zins at a nice price. Cheers Frank

From our monthly winners we will select a Vineyard of the year for 2008. There will be 11 choices and your input would be greatly appreciated in the selection process. Month by Month I will update this page so we can keep tabs on the previous winners.Febr...
This is our very first Holiday party and we feel like celebrating. The new tasting room is shaping up, the patio is nearly complete, the salmon are running down at the creek, and our award winning wines are flat out gorgeous.
Zinfandel can be light and fruity, much like French Beaujolais, or lively, complex and age worthy, like cabernet sauvignon or claret. It can also be made into big, ripe, high alcohol style wines that almost resemble port.
Zinfandel has a very hardy nature. Adaptable to a wide range of soils and climates, its vines tend to be vigorous and productive.
Because of its vigor, generosity and resistance to vine disease, many zinfandel vineyards exist that are seventy-five to more than one hundred years old.
Zinfandel aficionados believe these "old vines" produce the best wines because the older vineyards set smaller crops and the grapes tend to ripen more evenly.
Zinfandel is one red varietal that is best enjoyed in its youth. With more bottle age the luscious fruit that distinguishes Zinfandel drops markedly and the wine can show a pronounced taste of higher alcohol levels.
When paired with grilled steaks, chops or meat that has been stewed Zinfandel becomes a prime motivation for people to become wine lovers.
The Syrah is a spicy and intense purple wine that fully reflects its combined French and Middle Eastern origins. It is also called Shiraz in South Africa, Canada, and Australia. Syrah is full bodied and has a rich and chewy texture with aromas that exude of chocolates, berries, espresso, and black pepper.
Syrah is primarily produced in Australia, the Rhone Valley in France, and the US. In Australia, Syrah production is prominent in the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and the Clare Valley. Syrah produced from these regions are extremely full bodied and have high alcohol content.
French Syrah has a diverse character and style. Syrah produced from the Hermitage region has a tannic texture and flavor while Côte-Rôtie Syrah has a fruity and fragrant nature.
In the US, Syrah is primarily produced in California and Washington state. California Syrahs have varying character depending on the climate and environmental conditions in which the vines were grown. Syrah is often mixed with other Rhone varietals in the warmer regions of the US.
Quite often a good wine is a great wine when paired with the right food. Some food and wine pairings are quite obvious where as others are often illusive. Are you planning a dinner and want to see what wine would go best with it? Have you had a great meal that was perfectly paired with a wine? Please share it so we can all enjoy the wine pairing.
Welcome to the Virtual Wine Tasting Club. Every month in our online wine tasting series we will taste a different wine and post our tasting notes. In advance, if possible, please post the wine you will be trying that fits the tasting. The tasting will last one month so you can taste and post your notes in that time frame. Please ask questions about the wine we're tasting, post recommendations for future wine tastings and make this online wine tasting group a wonderful, interactive, informative wine discussion.
Welcome to the San Francisco Bay Area Wine Group. I'm looking for a couple of group leaders to to take over this group once we get it up and running. If you would like to organize or plan things please let me know. If you are in the area please join up. If you know of an event or tasting in the area please post it. North Bay, East Bay, South Bay, Peninsula and SF itself are included in this group and we'd like a group leader for each part of the SF Bay area.
