She didnt believe me when i told her there were terrific Ontarios out there. the coup de grace came when she showed up at my house with an Ontario pinot noir (inniskillin montague vineyard)
I am open to other suggestions for superb ontario pinot noir to get her to try too.

At that time, i was die hard white, but have discovered red now. My first choice is always Canadian, Niagra wines. I'm trying to convert a friend whose stuck on Australia-trying to get her see there is some great ones close to home too. Konzelmann is a beautiful winery, and i brought home 3 bottles that day from it :) Keep up the good work, getting out the word that Niagara makes fantastic wines  less

  • Yet another reason to drink Canadian wine....

    Posted February 24, 2009

"Cool climates such as Canada’s produce grapes that are naturally higher in a chemical compound known as resveratrol, the anti-oxidant found in grape skins that when consumed in wine, appears to reduce fat and cholesterol in human blood." from the article: http://www.nataliemaclean.com/view.asp?id=...

  • Cabernet Franc Wine
    43 members
Cabernet Franc is one of the leading varietals of red wine produced in Bordeaux, France. Cabernet Franc has a peppery aroma and fruity flavor that is more delicate than its close relative, the Cabernet Sauvignon. Depending on the place of production and the specific wine making process, Cabernet Franc may also exude aromas of tobacco, raspberry, and cassis. It has a lower tannin level and has a distinct blueberry/raspberry flavor. Cabernet Franc is usually mixed with other varietals of wine like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In recent times, wine producers have increasingly sold Cabernet Franc as a stand alone varietal.

Aside from the Bourdeaux region, Cabernet Franc is also produced in the Loire Valley. Other countries such as Argentina, the Balkan states, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, Romania, and South Africa also produce Cabernet Franc. Of particular interest is the ice wine made from Cabernet Franc in Canada. Ice wine is a type of dessert wine made from grapes that were frozen while still on the vine.
  • Riesling Wine
    73 members
Riesling is a white wine variety with its origins coming from Germany. This variety is quite ancient and may be considered as a result of Gouais Blanc and another type of vine. Today, many Germans and wine lovers from around the world continue to visit various locations and appellations that specialize in Riesling wines. This type of white wine is known for its high acidic element, resulting into a crisp flavor. A glass of Riesling may invoke fruity flavors that resemble apple, peach, grapefruit, and honey.

As Riesling wines age over the years, it is possible for the wines to develop an aroma that closely resembles the smell and taste of petroleum. However, this may be just a matter of preferences since you have to get accustomed to the taste first before truly becoming a Riesling wine lover.

If you love to know stuff about the history of this ancient grape, you can visit Bremen, Germany since its townhall has a good collection of vintage Riesling wines.
  • Syrah
    71 members
The Syrah is a spicy and intense purple wine that fully reflects its combined French and Middle Eastern origins. It is also called Shiraz in South Africa, Canada, and Australia. Syrah is full bodied and has a rich and chewy texture with aromas that exude of chocolates, berries, espresso, and black pepper.

Syrah is primarily produced in Australia, the Rhone Valley in France, and the US. In Australia, Syrah production is prominent in the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and the Clare Valley. Syrah produced from these regions are extremely full bodied and have high alcohol content.

French Syrah has a diverse character and style. Syrah produced from the Hermitage region has a tannic texture and flavor while Côte-Rôtie Syrah has a fruity and fragrant nature.

In the US, Syrah is primarily produced in California and Washington state. California Syrahs have varying character depending on the climate and environmental conditions in which the vines were grown. Syrah is often mixed with other Rhone varietals in the warmer regions of the US.
