    Andrea,
Thanks for the friend invite. Anything with Sangiovese in it tastes great. I just opened a "super Tuscan" on Valentine's Day and it was incredible! I try to collect Italian wines but it seems I drink them as soon as I buy them. I haven't tried the really expensive Barolos or the Brunellos but..someday. Thanks for the tip on Ruffalo Reserva, I will try it.

If you like Chiantis. I just got a Briccotondo from Piemonte, Barbera. It just says "dry red wine". It was a recommendation from the wine guy at Cost Plus. He's from Romania, very knowledgeable, he usually recommends me good ones. I'll let you know.

  • About Me Not at all a wine "connoisseur", but I'm surely curious about it. And I love it.
Also love food and having a reason to cook. Workout and music. People in general. Specially my daughter. Nature, hiking, camping. Hockey games are not bad also.

  • Favorite Wines I don't have one in particular, but recently I've been navigating through all the Italians I can find at the regular store. Briccotondo Piemonte Barbera from 2007. Good "new" old world.
    Love the Chiantis and Sangioveses.
Love Bordeaux even more, specially if there's a "saint" name in it (not because of religious purposes).
Cabs (337, J. Lohr Calif, Montes, Chile) and Pinot Noirs (the good old Castle Rock, Montecito county only).
I am always trying to learn more about Californian wines. Suggestions will be always appreciated.
Not a big fan of Portos and Malbecs. Hope it's not a sin and I'm not offending anyone in the wine world...

  • Barbera Wine
    23 members
Barbera refers to the Italian red wine grape variety that is used to make several Barbera wine appellations. Southern Lombardy and Piedmont are the traditional homes of the Barbera wines. The towns of Alba, Asti, and Pavia, are particularly well-known producers of the best Barbera wines, with Barbera di'Asti being the most noted wines under the Barbera group.

The exquisite Barbera wines were said to have emerged in Italy's central Piemonte, specifically in the Monferrato hills, and were present as early as the thirteenth century. Barbera wines used to be considered as an option if the Barolo wine is still not ready. However, better wine-making techniques used by wine makers today have made it possible for Barbera wines to be one of the best Italian red wines at present.

Barbera wines have gained worldwide distinction and the favor of wine enthusiasts from several countries outside Italy, including Argentina, the United States, Australia, and Brazil.
  • Bordeaux, France

If there is one thing that the region of Bordeaux is proud of, it would probably be its line of wines. For the record, Bordeaux is the largest wine-producing region in the whole world, and it would only follow that they produce the best wines available in the market today. Bordeaux is famous for its red wines, though, of course, its white varieties are doing exceptionally good as well.

Every Bordeaux wine possesses distinct quality, flavor, and taste. There are no two wines that are seemingly alike. And to come up with variations, wine makers planted and blended different vines that would collaboratively make up a unique-tasting and fine wine.

Bordeaux wines were said to have existed in the post 48 AD and were originally created for soldiers. As the years advanced, Bordeaux wines found other markets and were thereby exported, though in the earlier years wine exportation was never seen as a grand idea. Bordeaux wine industry witnessed several threats before like infestations and critical economic difficulties, but emerged from them successfully.
  • Pinot Noir Wine

Pinot noir grape may be quite difficult to cultivate and vinify, but it produces the finest wine in the history of mankind. Originally from the region of Burgundy, France, pinot noir is now grown and cultivated in several places outside of scenic France such as Austria, Australia, Chile, Canada, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Moldova, Switzerland, and the United States. Specifically, Oregon vineyards has thus far become one of the most successful planting fields of pinot noir primarily because of their exceptional climate that so well matches the grape's nature.

Pinot noir wine, a light-colored red wine, is aromatic and flavorful, suggestive of black cherry, tomato, raspberry, strawberry, cinnamon, mint, and mushroom. It is velvety in texture and seductive in nature, and may typically go well with any food because of its versatility. And in fact, any meal becomes extra special with a bottle of pinoit noir wine and a romantic toast.

Welcome to the Virtual Wine Tasting Club. Every month in our online wine tasting series we will taste a different wine and post our tasting notes. In advance, if possible, please post the wine you will be trying that fits the tasting. The tasting will last one month so you can taste and post your notes in that time frame. Please ask questions about the wine we're tasting, post recommendations for future wine tastings and make this online wine tasting group a wonderful, interactive, informative wine discussion.
