We'll be driving past two of them when we visit the area next week. Castelnaud & Beynac went back and forth between the British & French in the 100 yrs. war. Both Beynac & Hautefort were featured in the movie Ever After (Drew Barrymore , Angelica Houston). On my wine tours, we also visit Monbazillac, where a sweet white dessert wine is made, but I didn't find it's history as interesting. less

WesRobin: Texas is a fun state for wines. One of my favorites is Llano. I grew up south of Dallas about 40 miles in Ennis. Although Texas will always be in my heart, my home will always be in Colorado in the mountains.

Thanks for adding me as your friend! I want to see if you can help me out.
I work for a company called WineShop at Home. We are a Napa Valley Winery and we sell boutique artisan wines that you cant find on the store shelves. We sell our wines on line and also thru In-home and corporate wine tastings. We take 5 wines, a mix of whites and reds, pair them with cheeses and chocolates and have tons of fun.
Would you happen to know anyone that may be interested in joining our team? We are still trying to expand Texas, but we just opened up Illinois, Michigan, Florida, Missouri, and Georgia last week and are looking for new Wine consultants to join our company. If you know anyone that would love to do this business, you can do it full time or part time, I would love to talk to them and give them more information. Its a great way to make extra money and have fun drinking wine.
Please send them to my website, and take a look around - www.HelloChampagne.com.
rhon91: Welcome Kimberley! Glad to see you here! Rhonda

About Me
Well, about me.. hmmm.. I'm learning that even with the same name, wines are so very different. The experience of each is unique and sometimes just awful all together but when you do find one you like.. you never forget! While Napa, Russian River Valley and Others from the states have many fine wines, I'm still drawn to those from other countries. I'd love to travel to all the locations of my favorite wines. So far, the places I've been... the pairing of wine with the countryside have been an amazing combo. Here's to friendhips, life and great wine! Cheers!

Shiraz, Cab-Shiraz blends- Still learning as I go :-) I'd love to hear about your favorite wines!
Champagne would probably be one of the most famous wines today. Admit it, you probably have used champagne and wine almost interchangeably at some point in your life. It's fame is quite understandable because champagne, unlike some wines, is always on the table during festivities. Come to think of it. When you celebrate your birthday, what do you usually drink aside of course from colas? On New Year's Eve? On your best friend's wedding? Champagne, right?
A Quick Glance at the History
Champagne, aside from being a "celebration wine" is world-famous for being a sparkling wine. But Champagne, as we know it today, was originally just a "wine" until of course it adapted the name of the region where it originated.
Dom Perignon, a Benedictine monk, was widely regarded as the Champagne inventor, but history would tell that he was only instrumental to the development that occurred in the Champagne-making process. His contributions include cork usage, blending of different grapes from different vineyards, and clarification strategies.
The Syrah is a spicy and intense purple wine that fully reflects its combined French and Middle Eastern origins. It is also called Shiraz in South Africa, Canada, and Australia. Syrah is full bodied and has a rich and chewy texture with aromas that exude of chocolates, berries, espresso, and black pepper.
Syrah is primarily produced in Australia, the Rhone Valley in France, and the US. In Australia, Syrah production is prominent in the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, and the Clare Valley. Syrah produced from these regions are extremely full bodied and have high alcohol content.
French Syrah has a diverse character and style. Syrah produced from the Hermitage region has a tannic texture and flavor while Côte-Rôtie Syrah has a fruity and fragrant nature.
In the US, Syrah is primarily produced in California and Washington state. California Syrahs have varying character depending on the climate and environmental conditions in which the vines were grown. Syrah is often mixed with other Rhone varietals in the warmer regions of the US.
Quite often a good wine is a great wine when paired with the right food. Some food and wine pairings are quite obvious where as others are often illusive. Are you planning a dinner and want to see what wine would go best with it? Have you had a great meal that was perfectly paired with a wine? Please share it so we can all enjoy the wine pairing.
A brand new Dallas based wine group. Welcome to any new members living in the area, or just passing through. We plan on sending out info on wine tastings, wine events, and sharing local knowledge among the members.
Welcome to the Virtual Wine Tasting Club. Every month in our online wine tasting series we will taste a different wine and post our tasting notes. In advance, if possible, please post the wine you will be trying that fits the tasting. The tasting will last one month so you can taste and post your notes in that time frame. Please ask questions about the wine we're tasting, post recommendations for future wine tastings and make this online wine tasting group a wonderful, interactive, informative wine discussion.
