One of the best wine events in San Francisco is probably one of the least known. The event is mainly a press and trade event that allows family winemakers to showcase their wines in front of restaurants, liquor stores and food and wine columnists. It's a two day event, Sunday and Monday and features 400+ family winemakers at the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason.
The *BEST* way to enjoy the event is to volunteer to work a 3+ hour shift at the event and attend the rest of the event. This allows you to go both days (Sunday and Monday) while the general public can only purchase tickets for Sunday.
One of the great things about this event is that you can taste the varietal of your choice from many different wineries all in one location. I think this is a unique way to taste wine. You can of course do this at ZAP with Zin at Pinot Days with Pinot, etc... But when have you ever been able to spend the afternoon tasting nothing but Rose or Merlot, or Cab, or Meritages, or Sauvignon Blanc, etc...
for more information.
