Have you tried any Petite Sirah's from Temecula?
I was down in Los Angeles in 2003 and took a trip out to Tememcula while I was there. The wine that blew me away the most during that trip was the Petite Sirah I tried there. I don't have my notes with me but I was amazed at the amount of blackberry flavor that I found in almost every PS I tried there. It was absolutely wonderful.
My favorite find which I was there was a late harvest Petite Sirah. I'm pretty sure it was from Maurice Car'rie Winery. Evidently the workers had skipped two rows and they didn't find out about the blunder until three weeks after harvest. Rather than wasting the grapes they made a late harvest PS. It was an amazing with with huge blackberry and a lot of complexity. I absolutely loved it and wished that I had been able to buy more than the bottle I picked up.
I haven't had any Temecula Petite Sirahs since that visit, but I'm looking forward to my next visit to the area.
