  I visited Taittinger several years ago and their champagne was delicious. I recently got back from visiting Domaine Carneros in CA which is owned by Taittinger and their sparkling wine was very good in comparison to the champagne. It is also much cheaper.

  I'm have to agree about Domaine Carneros, they are wonderful; I have been there 3 times and have been a member of their wine club. :)

  Come on! Carneros schmarneros...it cannot be compared to the original!
  Of course it's drinkable, but life's too short to concentrate on cheap copies.

  Basse, have you even tried the Domaine Carneros wines? I would not say it is a cheap copy. In fact, it is a great expression of the local appellation. The top of the line Le Reve bottling is outstanding.
  
  While I admire your dedication to Champagne, which I do love as well, the constant attacks on anything not Champagne is little tiresome. Everyone has different tastes and it is actually _okay_ to like sparkling wines from other regions.

  @HondaJohn: answer, yes I have, and no, I'm not attacking at all! For me, personal freedom has always been the most important thing in the world!
  If I stepped on people's toes, I do apologize, this was never my intention! But I will continue stating that Champagne has absolutely NO SUBSTITUTE!
  If you find this tiresome, I really couldn't care less!!!
  Read something that's more interesting and leave me be.

  I just tried the Taittinger Prélude Grands Crus Champagne through my Bottlenotes order - definitely one to try!
