By definition, sustainability is "the characteristic of being able to coexist with another system indefinitely, without either system being damaged." By that definition, sustainable wineries use innovative practices that use resources wisely and maintain harmonious relationships with their neighbors and local species and organisms.
Practices include any combination of placing lands in conservation easements, replanting eroded riparian areas and native oaks, encouraging migratory bird habitat, providing for endangered species, using natural, non-toxic pesticides--or even better, no pesticides at all--and any organic viticulture practices.
Members of this group are interested in finding, tasting, reviewing, sharing, discussing, growing, making, and selling sustainable wines. Gusto buono! less
