Some of the most easily recognized white wines with fresh, zesty aromas come from the Upper Loire Region at Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume.
A consistent challenger for the sauvignon blanc crown comes from New Zealand's Marlborough Region. While these wines lack the edge of the sauvignon blanc's from the Loire they make up for it with their exuberant leafiness, green sap, gooseberry and zingy lime.
The creamy, dry Graves style is grown in warmer regions like California and Australia.
The cooler regions of South Africa, Constantia and Darling Hills, produce a crisp, elegant sauvignon blanc as do the Casablanca and San Antonio regions of Chile. less

What started off as an OK vintage then turned into a very good vintage. Dr John came back from Europe and the very next day we started picking our premium Sauvignon Blanc. The weather 2 weeks into the harvest then turned to crap. Because we have a full time vineyard crew we were able to pick all our premiums grapes, most of the Pinot Noir as well. I will say categorically to the consumer to stay clear of the big Sauv Blanc produces from here as the wines will be diluted. Torrential rain for almost a month. Alot of fruit was left on the vines to rot. We are lucky in that we only produce wine from our own vineyards and so before harvest have a good idea as to how much we are going to get and account for tank space. Some of the big producers had to borrow tank space because crops were over by as much as 30%. I would say our Sauvignon Blanc will be above average compared with the rest of ... less

sully: Twp other regions of France to keep a look out for when searching for Sauvignon Blanc are Coteaux Giennois and Cotes de Duras....both are fresh, zingy, grassy but with the telltale mineral edge that confirms their Gallic origins !!

That's why it may be deemed the elixir of youth. And, like the vast storehouse of energy and cheerfulness of a child which makes him dear to people, sauvignon blanc is also a dear addition to a variety of meals.
Many wine connoisseurs all over the world swear by sauvignon blanc as a balancer in various kinds of dishes. The secret is its lively yet refined essence that mixes well with the boldness of strongly or spicy flavored and highly acrid foods. Sauvignon blanc is also acidic, but not so intense that it overpowers the flavor of the dishes served with it.
Not only bold tasting dishes benefit from the accomodating qualities of sauvignon blanc. Even very light-tasting healthy dishes such as crisp salad greens, fish, seafood dishes and salads, and tomatoes, and mild cheeses like chevre toast well with sauvignon blanc. less

The sauvignon blanc grape itself came from France, but perhaps most wine drinkers don't know that California and New Zealand manufactures most of the world's sauvignon blanc. California, the Golden State, is known for sauvignon blanc that's full of zest, acrid, viscous, bold, smooth, and fruity. The smell of Californian sauvignon blanc is also reminiscent of straw, chilies, herbs, spices, citrus fruits, toast, oak, butter, and smoke. New Zealand, the Maori country, is known for sauvignon blanc that is suggestive of lime, gooseberry, passion fruit, and the spears of asparagus.
Sauvignon blanc wineries in California and New Zealand are an interesting mix of old and new. The extensive stretch of leafy vines bearing the precious fruit reminds one of the pleasantries of... less

It is in New Zealand, though, that people took the grapes and produced wines with it. However, there are also extensive plantations of Sauvignon Blanc in Australia, California, South Africa, and Chile. In humid climates, developing of hardier clones is done because the grapes are prone to getting ìblack rotî and powdery mildewî.
There are four common varietal flavors of Sauvignon Blanc: herbaceous, vegetal, fruity, and aggressive. Sauvignon Blanc wines are produced with nearly no consistency when it comes to style. This is because some Sauvignon Blanc wines are dessert-style and happen to be very sweet, while there are others that are bone-dry wines. Tangy, nervy, zesty, racy, or tart are some of the words used to describe the taste of Sauvignon Blanc wines. This varietal of wine also happens to be one that can accompany various kinds of foods fairly well. less

It is "perfectionner" with appetizers and dishes with herb-y seasonings and rich sauces. Sauvignon blanc is also the partner of choice for fish or chicken, especially when they're smoked or grilled. And surprisingly, sauvignon blanc also makes a grand match for the Japanese sushi. As per cheeses, excellent choices will be goat and cow's milk aged cheeses like Chevre and Jarlsberg. Other dainty and acrid cheeses such as the French Le Banon, Spanish Cabrales, Greek Feta, Italian Pecorino, and strong cheddar should also do the trick.
However, if you really want to bring out the "mieux" (best) in sauvignon blanc, just remember this: "frais, croustillant, et ÈlÈgant" (fresh, crisp, and elegant). A word of caution, though: be easy on the spices, salt, pickles, vinegar, and all other salty food. Sauvignon blanc's acidic nature might just turn your dishes into an uns... less

These are words that wine connoisseurs use to best describe sauvignon blanc. Sauvignon blanc hails from the region of Bordeaux in France. Its graceful, youthful vines also crawl in the richly tilled soils of Australia, California, New Zealand, and South America. What's interesting about the sauvignon blanc is that, unlike other wines, aging does not do much to make it more dÈlicieux. Sauvignon blanc is best served while still in its "jeunes" (young) years; hence it can be referred to as the elixir of youth. It is also among the first few exceptional bottled wines to be capped with a screwcap in place of a cork in New Zealand.
Like a child, much about sauvignon blanc has something to do with how the vines are taken care of. The ones given the most thoughtful attention produce white wines that are dry, rejuvenating, and very acrid. Sauvignon blanc also smells aromatic, is zesty, snappy, and bold. less
