The Chateau Gigognan Chateauneuf-du-Pape Clos du Roi pours out a lovely deep red with very nice clarity. On the nose aromas of red fruit (raspberry, cherry), fresh olive, spice and a touch of licorice come through. In the mouth this is a powerful wine but possesses a certain refinement as well. Flavors of red cherry, black cherry, plum, pepper and a little olive with some earthiness are foremost. Good structure and nice balance. The finish lasts quite a long time. A lovely Chateauneuf-du-Pape wine that has potential to age for a very long time. $40.00 per bottle from The Wine Spies.
