The 2006 Clos La Coutale Cahors (80% Malbec and 20% Merlot blend) pours out a reddish purple in color with some lightening on the rim and good clarity. On the nose aromas of plum, cherry, blackberry, spice and smoke. In the mouth flavors of currant, cherry, some mineral and hints of chocolate. Moderate tannins. Good acidity. Medium length finish. This is a nice, dry red wine that is not overly complex but is very drinkable. I paid $13.99 for a 750ml bottle.
The Sweet Caroline Late Harvest Trousseau Gris from Carol Shelton Wines in Windsor, California is made from grapes from the Fanucchi Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The wine pours out a very pale straw in color with perfect clarity. Lovely honeyed peach and pear on the nose with a little minerality. In the mouth this is slightly syrupy but not cloying. Flavors of peach, pear, mineral and a hint of tropical fruit. Just enough acidity to counter the sweetness. Moderate length finish. A good dessert wine that I enjoyed with an orange scented creme brulee. $13.99 for a 375ml bottle.
The Treana Red (Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon blend) from Treana Winery in Paso Robles, California pours out a inky purl in color with some reddish hues. On the nose wonderful aromas of ripe berries, flowers and hints of mineral. In the mouth the wine is lush and fairly ripe with flavors of blueberry, blackberry, black cherry, a hint of cocoa and a little olive. Quite tannic, moderate acidity and full bodied. The finish is long and lingering. A very good wine that I would buy again. $48.99 for a 750ml bottle.
