The Julien Port from Chateau Julien in Carmel Valley, California is made from eight different grapes including Tinta Amarella, Tinta Cao, Tinta Madeira, Tinta Roriz and Souza. The port pours out a deep ruby red and is quite opaque. On the nose aromas of stewed fruit and berries with hints of warm spice. Slightly sweet in the mouth with lovely rich berry flavors and spice. Nice acidity and just a touch of alcohol heat that warms the mouth. Lingering finish that lasts. A nice ruby port meant to be drank young. $28.00 for a 750ml bottle.

The Pinot Noir Ghost Ranch (Carneros) from Laird Family Estate in Napa, California pours out a light garnet red in color with good clarity. On the nose aromas of blackberry, strawberry, raspberry, a little rhubarb, cinnamon and a touch of mushroom. Very appealing in the mouth with ripe red fruit backed by distinct earthiness. Well balanced, good acidity, supple tannins. Fairly long finish. This is one of the best California Pinot Noir wines I have tasted in a while and exhibits good QPR at the $30.99 I paid. 93 well deserved points from both Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.

The Julia's Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Maria Valley AVA) from Cambria Winery in Santa Maria, California pours a light cherry red in color with good clarity. On the nose aromas of strawberry, cherry , raspberry and a little earth. Subdued cherry and raspberry in the mouth accented by spice, vanilla and cola. Moderate acidity. Mild tannins. Quite smooth. Short to medium length finish. A nice Pinot Noir. Very drinkable but not overly special. I paid $20.99/750ml bottle.

The Oregon Pinot Noir from Cloudline Cellars in McMinnville, Oregon pours out a raspberry red in color with wonderful clarity. On the nose aromas of strawberry, cherry and wet forest. In the mouth the fruit (cherry, raspberry, strawberry) is there but it is hidden under earthy notes and acidity. Medium bodied with light tannins. Medium short finish. A good Pinot Noir for the price, I paid $16.99/750ml, but I kept hoping for something more as it opened up that didn't materialize. I suspect the rain that fell close to harvest in 2007 has washed this wine out a bit and other vintages from better years may show more depth.
