I do not know about you but I think these quotes from Robert Beynat, Vinexpo CEO, seem a little out of touch. Mr. Beynat has been quotes as saying the web will "never be anything other than a marginal circuit for sales" and "The internet is not the right medium for the sale of wines and spirits, it is not a real alternative to traditional sales circuits and will never reach more than around 8% of the market."

When I first heard these quotes I though they must be from way back when. But I was wrong there. They were made very recently and in the wine news today. Seems to me like Mr. Beynat is a little out of touch with the Internet.

More info available on Decanter.

You may have thought you had no room for a wine cellar. But the folks over at Spiral Cellars have come up with a solution for you. Very ingenious and eye catching, if you ask me. These spiral cellars will hold 1000 to 1600 bottles of wine depending on the depth of the cellar. Three meters deep holds 1600 bottles.

I went to the Wine & Ski Expo last night here in Reno. Quite a nice turnout at the event with lots of food and wine. Here are some brief tasting notes from the evening:

Carol Shelton Wines:

  • Monga Zinfandel - raspberry, strawberry, cherry, some oak and a touch of sweetness. Fruit forward, not overly tannic. Moderate to long finish.
  • Karma Zinfandel - blueberry, black cherries, winter spice and some oak. More tannic than the Monga Zin. Nice finish. Should age well.
  • Maple Zinfandel - blackberry, cola and black pepper. Rich, nicely structured, good complexity. Black fruit on the finish.
Surh Luchtel Cellars:
  • Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir - cherry, blackberry, cranberry, vanilla and a little pinot funk. Good fruit. Not too complex. Moderate length finish.
  • Cabernet Sauvignon - Dark fruit, spice and tobacco. Bold tannins. Nice acidity. Fairly balanced but needs to age a bit. Should turn out to be a very nice wine.
Four Vines:
  • Anarchy - Syrah, Mourvedre and Zinfandel blend. Ton of fruit. Big and bold. Velvet mouthfeel. Great finish. Very Rhonesque.
  • Naked Chardonnay - Unoaked Chardonnay. Crisp apple peach and pear. Nice fruit, good balance. A firmness to it that is refreshing. Super finish with touches of mineral and citrus.
Elyse Winery:
  • C'est si Bon - Rhone varietals. Pomegranate, blackberry, plum, citrus peel and pepper. Creamy texture. Fairly balanced. Drinking a bit young. Nice finish
There were a lot more wines to try and a big thanks to Jeff From Twisted Oak for letting us all taste some of his wine that is not officially released yet.
